If you were to pick out the best thing about being a Halvsie, what would it be?

Having he best of both worlds. I can go into Lil' Tokyo in Los Angeles and be a buddahead, yet mingle with the majority white folk in the rest of society.

best thing of being a haaafu...hmm... many good things.. I guess the best thing I can underline is the fact that I was priviledged to grow up knoinw two -completely different -worlds in parallel...I think that itself is a treasure...
however I have realized that there are haafu who havent had any relation with their other half country and they only look haafu but dont feel haafu at all.

Well i have to admit that is a kinda interesting angle on things. I've been thinking on it for a while and i can't see any advantages or disadvanteges of beeing halvsie. Though it is cool that i have got to travel around the world because moms and pops come from opposite sides of the globe. But i can't see it as a "best" kinda thing because traveling can be done anyway from whatever place of origin.

The endless ways you can twist your heritage to joke about stuff! Since I'm half Finnish I can for example both claim that I can drink way more alcohol than others, but if things mess up (as the often do) I can say that I was feeling particularly Japanese that evening.
OR when I'm socially awkward, people can just disregard it by saying "don't worry about him, he's japanese and they are a little weird". |
