big favour to ask
#1
I'm going to be thinking about 転職 soon and right now I'm brushing up my CV in preparation.

I will be trying to find work in Japan.

I have two methods of showing my "SKILLZ", one being

the CV and the other being a "portfolio" style site that shows some of my recent web projects and

outlines my skillset (since I will be trying for a web-related job).

The portfolio site is bilingual

and the Japanese copy is currently being checked (or rather, gutted and re-written entirely) by Sam (cheers very

much!) but I also need someone to check the Japanese on my 履歴書. Or would that be

経歴書? bah. Anyway I can't really ask Sam to do it as its a bit much to rely on

one poor person alone, so I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give it a look and tell me where

I've messed up my particles or used some odd turn of phrase.

Note that it contains a lot of

pretentious computer buzzwords like

バイラルマーケティング so if you still get

mixed up between the microwave and your Dell it might read a bit weird.

I would post it up here but

I'd rather it wasn't so public, so if you reckon you have the time to help me, send me a pm or write a

message in this thread.

If I see you at the meetup in April I promise to ply you with alcohol and all the

gold you can eat.

cheers
Jon

anyone? [Image: sad.gif]

If people reckon its too much to have a

look at themselves in its entirety (fair enough) I will post it up here so people can pick whatever bits that

they reckon could be reworded better etc.

But like I say, its my CV so I'd rather I didn't have

to post it up on a forum...

Sorry Jon I

don't have Japanese text on my computer...if you need someone (I mean Japanese/computer fluent to look at

something...my uncle can and a few of my friends can also). Sorry I couldn't read all of your post..let me

know.

Peace! [Image: smile.gif]

Can't

guarantee you any results in any sort of timeframe or quality, but I can take a look at it to make suggestions

and some corrections and so on.. it's been years since I've done a rirekisho..

Its

not strictly a rirekisho, it is a modern CV adhering to regular CV-writing principles.

So for my

experience there is a little bit about the jobs I've done and some bullet points in more detail. Then

education (just a list of my courses at uni), "positions of note" which is another list, a skills

section and a tiny bit about me personally.

Like I say it has been translated already by myself, but

I'm not confident that it reads naturally and would like someone to give me a hand with that - if you are

bilingual it should hopefully only be a matter of crossing bits out like "he meant to put this there, not

that".

Maybe I should just post it up here and it can be a pet project for the forum...

Hmm..

I've never seen a Japanese CV (and simple googling for Japanese CV examples/instructions didn't turn up

with any hits). Any reason why you're not doing rirekisho in Japanese and instead are doing a CV if

you're going to apply for jobs in Japan?

because the kind of jobs I'll be applying

for seem to all just ask for this kind of format, or even have their own application form to apply for (which I

would just C&P from my CV).

I haven't seen many jobs (of the ones I've been looking at, at

least) that have specifically stated they want a traditionally formatted rirekisho. I guess the rirekisho is

more something that you would use if you were going into the job as a native Japanese person.

Note this

is just the Japanese VERSION of my CV - its not "my Japanese CV" if you know what I mean. My English

CV is layed out in a specific way and as much as possible I want the Japanese version to keep the same

structure.

Maybe the job market changed within the last 5 years or so and Japanese CVs are becoming more common. Makes

sense.

Maybe a straight translation of English CV into Japanese is good enough, maybe the Japanese one

should be Japanized according to local standards. I'm not sure because I haven't done any CVs or

rirekishos in years. Anyways, this site also has samples, and dos and don't for Japanese CVs.

I

don't have a block of time right now to go through your CV, so I'll have to get back to you later.. if I

can. Yeah, I take lots of little breaks here, but mental preparation for something like a CV is completely

different.. Sorry I can't be of help immediately.

its

cool - like I said, no one should feel they have to take the whole thing on alone and in one go. If you notice

one mistake in passing you can let me know in this thread and I'll edit the version on display here to

reflect the correction and people can help bit by bit.
