So how
come there are so many Japanese text encoding formats around?
I mean: JIS, Shift Jis, Shift Jis X0213,
EUC, ISO 2022-JP, and then there's UNICODE...wassup with this shite!!
Do any of you know if
any one of these is standard? How can I best avoid MOJIBAKE (when others try to read my stuff)?
I'm
running OS X 10.3 is there a default encoding that "Kotoeri" uses (mac users will know WTF i'm
talking about)... what's the default on Japanese Windows? or does it vary?

mojibake...
dude?
but it didn't appear.

I totally
used to use Camino... thats a pimpin' browser.
despite apple's pronouncements, I think its a
little faster than Safari.
I pretty much use Safari these days, since upgrading to 10.3 from
10.1.
I should give old CAMINO a try sometime. Does it handle that issue better?
how about windows
users though, do they have mojibake problems? especially when cross platform messaging?

Amazingly,
Windows XP has little problem with Japanese input. At least that's my observation with Internet Explorer and
Mozilla.
I once used Camino all the time but since Safari has spell check, it's hard to switch back
to Camino. I currently only use Camino for browsing Yahoo Groups and for inputting Japanese on the web. Camino
will solve all your Japanese input problems because it handles text fields differently to Safari.

Camino's going to have a hard time keeping up with both Safari and Firefox.
that said, I have no
issues on 10.3.4.
日本語
I think the key is to set your browser to unicode first, and then it
should have no problems. When you input unicode while you are still in your non-Unicode setting, then I think
there are problems?

OK OK the
whole reason I started this thread is because I was wondering if people want to do some Japanese posts, but I
wanted to figure out if there was a standard encoding that most people used with the greatest amount of
success.
anyways I sort of am stuck as to what to post as a topic... but also it seems a little
anti-democratic to be posting stuff in Japanese only... seeing as how not everybody will be able to
participate... what do you think? <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
