pffff....friggin' cartoons....long live Charlie Chan:

The last three were: Warner Oland (1931 - 1938), Sidney Toler (1938 - 1947), Roland Winters (1947 - 1949) not a Chinese in the group. Gotta love those rubberbanded eyes.

Damn, that's got to be a terrible DBZ movie. At least Mortal Kombat had a good soundtrack.

Fear the live action... but at least they could've made Piccolo green for gods sake!

Wow... I know it's just a bad screen grab, but could they have picked a shot where Chow Yun Fat looked any *less* interested?

Trailer for the live action Hollywood movie's out. At least Piccolo's green, but that's about all that's been improved from the leaked images. Fear the SF2 live action movie level big pile of fail on this one.

The third Matrix felt a lot more like DBZ, and that makes sense since anime had a big influence on the Wachowski bros.

Nice thread.
I don't know about the comment made earlier regarding anime hair not looking good in real life.
There was definitely a time when 9 out of 10 guys in Shibuya would have the super-saiyajin katto.

QUOTE(hapacheese @ Apr 8 2008, 04:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Oooh, dry cleaner would do it!!!

In all seriousness, like number9 said, Toriyama Akira's characters all look the same. He's got a very distinctive art style that has a special place in my childhood memories, but change the hair color on any of his "white" characters and you'll get an Asian dude.

Exactly.
If you actually look at the features instead of skin/eye/hair color, you'd see that most Japanese anime characters are the "stereotypical hafu"....the other half of course being Caucasian. Brown hair, big eyes, nose with a high narrow bridge (except kids), but not completely white and vulgar looking.
Also, everyone knows that unless the character looks like Mashirito (Dr. Slump reference for you hard core Toriyama fans) or Mr. Popo, a total cliche, it's all about how they have their hair did.
I always liked how Ranchi-san (is it supposed to be Raunchy? or Lunch?) changed from a reserved sweet little blue haired (I'm assuming asian) girl to a bad ass white woman and her hair color just matched each personality.

haha, I also thought doorknob was saying you can tell Goku is Japanese from the size of his little moose knuckles.

And to answer your original question, my favorite character was always Kuririn. Kienzan all the way baby.
Suffering is above, not below.

And everyone thinks that suffering is below.

And everyone wants to rise.

and... drum roll

Contrary to your humorous joke, no hafu I've ever seen has any resemblance to any Japanese animation character whatsoever. Maybe Kristen Kruek, but then again she looks very Asian. I was actually shocked to find out that she was mixed because she definitely doesn't look like the stereotypical hafu let alone hafu

QUOTEBrown hair

Many Japanese have brown hair, natural or not in the end it doesn't matter. Color is color, in fact artificial hair coloring looks closer to animation hair color than natural hair color does.

QUOTEnose with a high narrow bridge
Are you living under a rock? Every race and ethnicity has people with high, narrow nose bridge. It's not exclusive to just one race of people.

QUOTEbig eyes,

See above.

QUOTEbut not completely white and vulgar looking.

I've never witnessed a Hafu supremacist before but you are the first. Very interesting. Though I don't have a problem with it because it's actually kinda cute in a way. Kinda like a midget bullying a normal person.

Oooh I loved watching Dragon Ball but my favorite is Dr. Slump Arare-chan

Arare-chan is my favorite character...I kinda remember the episode where Arare-chan and Goku met...

As for animation characters resembling halvises....
I can see it...
After all, there are all kinds of mixes and color halvsies around.....some look more Japanse, Hispanic, Caucasian....
etc.....

I refuse to watch the Dragon Ball movie
If ignorance is bliss then I'd rather be miserable....

I used to be quite the dragon ball nerd around the time of 8~10... i read the manga and watched the tv show. My favourite character was 亀仙人 (master roshi)... I think i was jealous of his turtle shell.
