First off... Hisashi-to-the-buri!

I will be doing a short in country study program in Kitakyushu from late November to late Decemeber at the end of this year (2009). I was wondering what exactly are the best things to do and see in and around Kitakyushu?
not exactly very close... but i always loved the zoo in fukuoka city, but i haven't been there since I was a kid <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

I plan to travel to Fukes to see some friends. So yeah I might swing by the zoo.. zoos kind of depress me though, I feel so bad for the animals.

Any other places in Fukes that you can remember?
well i had fam that lived there... so i'll ask them what they recommend

but i do remember liking のこのしま and canal city is always fun
wait... i just realized nokonoshima may not be ideal considering u won't be going for like a swim in the summer XD
fukuoka! ahh my second hometown..

canal city is fun. fukes is tiny compared to tokyo etc, but i love just going bura bura at tenjin. ermmm what else.. eat lots of yummy hakata food? if you're in the kitakyuushu area, then try and go to some onsens in oita or beppu, and you could check out aso-san. some of my findest memories of japan are of driving through that area in winter..
omg!!! i love aso-san!!! fun times!

btw, my cousins recommended hakata food, big air (if you snowboard), and the art museums!
oooh yeah! the art museum at dazaifu is massive and pretty impressive <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
OH IT'S AYA-TO-THE-PAPAYA!!!

HISASheee-to-the-friggin-BOOOOREEEEEE
don't miss the nagahama ramen in hakata! if you can stretch to aso-san, that's quite the sight too.
