I spent my early years in Japan, so I went through all ceremonies and celebration of Japan , especially ones regarding kids..shichigosan and CHildren's day and New Years day etc... Once we came to Greece (I was about 5) we stopped celebrating Japanese festivals, ceremonies etc. alghouth my mother did try at times to keep us up with Japanese traitions it wasnt always so easy...However, we did manage to grow up pretty haafu (in the sense that we tried to combine Greek and Japanese traditions and ceremonies)..how about u?

Don't think we did 7-5-3 as my dad isn't very traditional like that...My stepmother's mum is a Shinto priestess though so now she likes me to do things like make offerings to ancestors before meals which I do to keep her happy. We got like Chitose ame and stuff though, and otoshidama.

living in Greece now is difficult to follow those traditions but simple things can be done. My sis will try to pass some Japanese traditions to her baby girl

My Japanese mom doesn't celebrate any Japanese holidays, and my dad doesn't really celebrate any American holidays either. I'm back home with the folks right now for Thanksgiving, and we tried to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with ham, sweet potatoes and green beans, but ended up including some sushi with no turkey at all.
Maeku - Good call on taking your time to have a baby, but I'll be looking forward to your "hairy half-Greek" baby you talked about a long time ago when the time comes.

my mom never really celebrated Japanese holidays with us, with the exception of Obon.

No, the only Japanese culture item I was taught when I was a kid was jan-ken-po. Japanese Amerians who grow up isolated from other Japanese Americans tend to be more Americanized. Also, my father's generation was encouraged to assimilate into the mainstram "American" culture, so that is what he did.
