Jomon Descent
#1
Shimura Ken's post got me interested in the Jomon Descent. I remember googling this when he first posted it in July 2008 but there wasn't much stuff at the time. A year later, I've found some interesting links that I'd like to share with you guys.

a different SK I presume?

there's a Jomon archeological site/natural history museum not far from where my mom lives in Aomori. I was always under the impression that the Jomon people had a bit of caucasian ancestry, hence, their 'look'. I don't know if I have Jomon ancestry myself but it would explain why I look more white than Japanese, that and the fact that the Jomon archeological site is pretty damned close to my mom's hometown. This suggests that the Jomon gene pool is pretty widespread in the Tohoku and Hokkaido region. The Yayoi people obviously had more asian influence (Chinese & Korean).

I actually wouldn't mind doing a DNA test to see if i'm somehow descended from the Jomon. It might also explain why I have so much ass hair.

here's an interesting article on the Jomon.

This is a pretty interesting topic nez! I've always kinda wondered a bit about the jomon people, but haven't really looked into it... i'll try to find some articles about it now though!

Oh this IS quite interesting. I've been interested in the Jomon pottery, but I hadn't given much thought to the people who made it until this thread.

My dad had quite a bit of chest hair (and when I was a child, I thought ALL Japanese people were supposed to be hairy). And my maternal grandfather looked Hispanic, and my mom often used to be mistaken for Latina in California.

And...shimura-ken...you have hairy buttocks?! My son does too, and I've always told him it's from his father's side (even though neither he nor anyone else in his family has a hairy butt)...so you mean to tell me it might be from MY side of the family?! <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Nevertheless, you seem to have some good info on the topic.

@yamapikko - I don't know about butt hair, but I've heard several times that hair growth on the head, receeding hairline, bald spot etc. is inhereted from the maternal side.

my brother and I make the occasional joke about his son and how he's doomed to grow up with ass-hair.

the weird thing is my brother had started losing his hair in his mid twenties, whereas, I still have a full head of hear. I don't recall anyone on my mom's side of the family who was bald. all of the males have receding hairlines

I'm probably half-lion, half-Japanese then. I have this like ridiculously thick mane of hair on my head that gets super huge, but hardly any body hair on my arms and stuff.

I've got a fairly normal white-guy body hair dispersal pattern, but it seems to sloooowly be spreading. Thank god I don't have any back hair, though.

I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but my dad is actually growing a moustache right now and HE LOOKS LIKE BORAT. I can't get him to shave it off though, he loves it.

It *happens* to be opposite day, which means I might just *happen* to post pictures of him in a banana hammock. Just sayin'.
