Are halvsies arrogant?
#1
I mean in general. Do you think haafu such as ourselves are arrogant, whether it's because of how we portray ourselves or appear to others? I have to admit, I have never met another haafu here, and if I did see one I doubt i'd go out of my way to give him/her the secret haafu handshake. I guess I don't really care if I share similar genetics as someone else that I may have nothing in common with otherwise (ironic that I post here, eh?). I think it's a generational thing too - haafu's weren't very popular when I was a kid growing up in the 70's and early 80's. It wasn't until the last 20 yrs or so that haafu started to become somewhat of a novelty in Japan and thus popular. I've always found that aspect of Japanese culture repulsive. The Japanese have a knack for taking a living person, objectifying them and turning them into the next fad. Anyone remember the Bushman craze back in the 80's (from The Gods Must Be Crazy movie)? Maybe i'm just getting old

From the halvsies I've met I wouldn't say we're any more or less arrogant than people in general.

I've met some people from halvsie, and I've felt I did have things in common (some more than others of course), despite us all being from different parts of the world. Mainly having an unique connection to Japan, being both Japanese and not at the same time.

I kinda know what you mean about Japanese objectifying people. It's sort of like, a person has one peculiar/unique thing about them, and then suddenly that's the only thing they are. They get cemented in a category. But I think that happens to a lot of people, not just haafu.

as far as taking one unique thing about someone and running with it...yea, i know that all too well. being 6'6" and half japanese, people always make some kind of comment about that. just like yao ming, etc etc lol <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laughlong.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':laugh2:' />

is height really unique though? I know Japanese people are shorter than the average person and that 6'6 is tall by Japanese standards, but it doesn't strike me as something the Japanese should get excited about. It's no different than the way Japanese culture perceives Western culture and tries to emulate it. I think the crux of the problem for me is that Japan still has lost their cultural identity and they basically steal their ideas from everybody else, hence some of the ridiculous fashion trends. but i'm getting off topic here.

I wouldn't know. Far to small of a sample to give any meaning at all. Think I've met like one single halfie that wasnt related, and she was pretty kind <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

this is too general a question i think..

i have met arragoant halvsie and non-arrogant...then again i have met one-racial people who were arrogant and ones who were not.

Am I arrogant? if I was i wouldnt really admit it right?

I d like to think I am not. But I am not really sure how u d describe an arrogant halvsie. maybe its the fact that Enlgish is not my native language?

I don't think I'm arrogant, but I am proud. I'm proud of my French side, too, though. I love being a mix.

i dunno. no offence, i mean. but you come off as slightly arrogant. its not a bad thing but you seem very proud. i like that in a girl. <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/inlove.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lover:' />

Then I guess I'm slightly arrogant (though I certainly don't mean to be or come across that way).

I always thought the use of the word "double" to self-describe half japanese was very arrogant.

Does anyone think of me as arrogant? I wonder...

And jonny. I could not say with utmost certainty, but per my arro--go-meter, 'tis pointing rather upward at yer very prescence. <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

I mean, "really?", who actually says that in an "arrogance" thread? <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sorcerer.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wiz:' />

Just to clear things up, I think it's just a matter of the person in question like all other things pertaining to personality.

So my answer to this theads question is a definite no. Halvsies are no more or less arrogant than the general population.
