I know a few people here play guitar (I know SWC has about a million guitars, for example), so I think we should
have a GUITARRRRrr thread. In this thread, state what equipment you own (pics if you have them), your playing
background, who your influences are and if you have one (or would like to make one) a little sample of you
playing guitar. We had farang noi give us a little sample a while back and it was sweet - I want to hear more
from the rest of you guitar players.
Me, I'm not really a "guitar player" as such, I just
muck around a bit. Never had any formal lessons so I'm not too hot on theory and I don't know the names
of half the chords I play but I enjoy it at least. I'm more of an acoustic man now - but I used to be in a
punk rock band in 6th form (thats High School, Kyle).
When I came to Japan I left most of my electric
equipment behind (hence me being more acoustic nowadays) so here's what I have now:
Westfield TF 656P
(some rubbish generic brand) electro acoustic. Really high action that hurts my fingers. Don't really care
much about this guitar so it has become my "Elementary School" guitar for when I sing songs during
school visits.
Yamaha APX 4A electro acoustic. Bought this about 2 months ago. I love this
guitarrrrr.
(sunburst is the yamaha)
Some...plectrums...
and thats it.
I don't have
an amp as if I want to amp up my guitar I plug it into my computer which then outputs to my
stereo.
anyway, what about YOU guys.

Right.
you're not getting a sample yet cos I'm still working on it.
I'm a good old amateur guitarist for
around 3 years now (I think), and I've been taught on and off and taught myself. currently my mate max of
this band called the fingerprints (thefingerprints.com) is teaching me.
I have:
a beaten less than ten
pounds classical guitar signed by fallento (a small heavy metal band) and athlete (a cool indie band)
a
westfield acoustic (sunburst colour) slightly better sounding
A fantastic Fender telecaster (mexican) in a
blue colour
and a Marshall MG15 and a Marshall MS-2 for amps
and tons of plectrums and a capo.
I learn
stuff off the net and try to write kick ass songs (and fail). I was in a band (i.e. a load of beginners girls on
instruments - 2 guitarists, bassist and a drummer).

ahhh
I reeeeally want a tele. Reeeally reaaally.
But I don't play a lot of amped music now, so there
would be no point for me. Maybe I'll get one when I'm old, bald and lonely and don't have enough
money for a porsche.

I
worship him too - the man is a God. I love the way he plays his songs slightly differently every time when he
does them live. You know he is totally improvising, like in his head he is thinking "finger here, finger
there yep yep damn I'm amazing". Neon is FVVVVVCKING R0x0rZ impossible. Your teacher friend must be
awesome.

yeah he is,
but i'm trying not to tell him that too often. good thing is that I no longer find him attractive. he
doesn't need another ego boost.
still only charges me £10 an hour cos he's not professional teacher.
no problem with me.

Woah Yongfook, you're pretty good at the guitar and a good singer to boot!! I've attempted playing "no such thing" so I know how tricky the chord changes are. I should upload my version of the song so that people can appreciate the difficulty of that song. I'm not really a chords type person so I suck at such songs. <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
My gear:
Guitars:
1. Low end Yamaha Acoustic
2. Mexican Fender Strat with Fender Custom '69 pickups and tremolo blocked with a tail feather.
3. Japanese Epiphone ES-335
Amps:
1. Crappy solid state 40W Ashton Amp
2. Peavey Classic 30
Effects:
1. Digitech RP200
2. BOSS CS-3 Compressor
3. Jim Dunlop Crybaby
Here's a photo of me and the girls...
The guitarist I like most is BB King. I also like Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmi Hendrix, Gary Moore and Larry Carlton. As you can see, I like rock and the blues. <img src='http://www.halvsie.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Hey
Yongfook, very impressive! You have great rythm, and a great voice!!! Is that tatami in your
room? I like it!!

Youngfoo, you're good!
So many Japanese people can sing well, I definately did not inherit that
good gene.
Very impressed with people who can play guitars as well.
I tried teaching myself guitar once
but after my fingers started to bleed I thought, why would anyone put up with this...must be masochistic... so I
stuck w/ playing piano instead.
(John Mayer is aight. I don't enjoy watching him sing though...)

You fingers are supposed to hurt initially. The skin on your fingers harden and that enables you to fret the strings.

I'm not a guitar player nor expert, I've admired a few in my time, and once tried to learn how to play
bass. Isn't the way Stanley Jordan plays, on the neck, the hardest way to play?
I've always
thought he should have come out w/ a rock album and show some of these so-called greats how it's done. But
seriously I think he could've gotten more attention had he done so...
